Asadi Research Group is looking for highly motivated PhD students with a background in chemical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering interested in the field of infectious disease transmission. Postdoctoral researcher

Project title: Elucidating the physics of pathogen-laden respiratory droplet formation

Description: Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Asadi Research Group at ND CBE. The scholar will lead research on a project related to elucidating the mechanisms of droplet formation in human respiratory tract and investigating the key parameters that govern their formation. The research will entail the design of micro- and milli-fluidic devises, rheometry, high-speed imaging, microscopy, human experiments, and working with aerosol monitoring instruments. 

Experience & Skills: Candidates must have obtained a PhD in chemical, biomedical, or mechanical engineering, have a strong record of impactful scientific contributions, excellent writing skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with experts from various disciplines, including the medical science community.

Additionally, applicants should demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Microfluidic device design and fabrication
  • Rheometry
  • Biomimetic hydrogel design
  • High-speed imaging
  • Familiarity with laboratory aseptic techniques
  • Familiarity or interest in building simple mechanical devices.

Position Start Date: February 2024 or after (the position will stay open until filled)
