Biography

Dr. Asadi earned her PhD in Chemical Engineering with Designated Emphasis in Biotechnology from UC Davis in 2020. Her dissertation titled “airborne infectious disease transmission via expiratory aerosol particles and aerosolized fomites” under the supervision of Prof. William Ristenpart received Zuhair A. Munir Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertation from UC Davis College of Engineering. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the results of Dr. Asadi's work focusing on the role of human speech in disease transmission gained widespread recognition by researchers from various engineering and scientific disciplines, health organizations, and the media.

After completing her PhD, she joined Prof. Patrick Doyle's research group at MIT Chemical Engineering as a postdoc, where she developed a method to produce shape-engineered alginate particles with applications in pharmaceutical, biomedical, and food industries. In 2022, she was awarded the Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Career Awards at the Scientific Interface to establish her independent research group and perform infectious disease research.

Dr. Asadi joined the University of Notre Dame as the Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering in January 2024.
